Scholarship

The Mispillion Kennel Club offers a yearly $2000 scholarship to a student enrolled in an accredited veterinary school who is from the state of Delaware. Letters and applications are mailed in early August to twenty-seven institutions so that they can distribute to any Delaware student. The deadline for application is October 1st. The scholarship money is for the following winter semester.

The Dr. William E. Spence Scholarship, first awarded in 1979, honors the memory of Dr. Spence, a charter member of the Mispillion Kennel Club. He began his practice in Milford, then moved it to Dover as the Dover Animal Hospital. Members of the Club raise the scholarship monies at the Club's annual point show at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center, Salisbury, Maryland, in early November each year.

2000 Robert J. Flanagan, a student at Oregon State University
2001 Cynthia Harker, a student at North Carolina State University
2002 Carrie Conklin Raymond, a student at North Carolina State University
2003 Laurie Prober, a student at the University of Pennsylvania
2004 Andrea Jones, a student at the University of Georgia
2005 Andrea Jones, a student at the University of Georgia

For 2006, there were two scholarships awarded for 2006 due to the increased number of applications received. The recipients were: Clare Lochstoer of Middletown, DE, who attends the University of Pennsylvania and Hannah Minch of Wilmington, DE, who attends the University of Georgia.

For 2007, we are pleased to announce that our 2007 scholarship winner was: Christina Dayton-Wall of Wilmington, DE, a student at the University of Georgia. {No Photo Available}

For 2008, we are pleased to announce that our 2008 scholarship recipient is: David B. Scofield, of Wilmington, Delaware, a third-year student at Oklahoma State University's College of Veterinary Medicine.

In addition to the above veterinary scholarship, the Mispillion Kennel Club also offers a $500 scholarship to a full-time Delaware student in the Vet-Tech program at Delaware Tech & Community College.
